Vardy named player of the year by football writers
Jamie Vardy has scored 22 BPL goals this season for Leicester
Jamie Vardy has been named the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year for 2016.
The 29-year-old is the first player from Leicester to win the prestigious award, which he will receive from former Foxes striker Gary Lineker on 12 May. In total, seven Leicester players were nominated.
Other players to receive votes from FWA members were Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane, West Ham United’s Dimitri Payet, Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero and Kevin De Bruyne, and Spurs’ Dele Alli.
